It's pie time

We are holding our breath to see who will win this year’s World Scotch Pie Championship. The results are being announced on the 25th of November but until then you can get stuck into an appetiser courtesy of the BBC.

I’ve just had a chat with Alan Stuart who runs sixteen bakery and butcher shops around Fife and who also organises the championship. Apparently, the judges were very impressed with the quality of this year’s entries. Around twenty butchers, bakers and pie enthusiasts took part in the extensive baking and judging session.

‘I don’t think very many of them would have been stopping off at the chip shop on the way home,’ noted Mr Stuart.

As per the BBC report, Mr Stuart confirmed that he is in the final tweaking stages of developing the world’s hottest pie. He hopes that it will be ready to launch next week.

In the course of developing the pie, two men have cried and one has felt faint but Mr Stuart reckons that there is a market for such a product. ‘There are people who really like very hot flavours,’ he says. ‘I think there is quite an element of machismo to it. I’ll be surprised if we have many women buying them.’
