In between the odd snigger, the 5pm blog was deeply saddened to read this tale of a Christmas punch-up in a German supermarket. According to the Telegraph, a dispute over a supermarket trolley led to a pitched battle between a pensioner and a family of three. The combatants are said to have bludgeoned one another with salamis and tried to stab each other with large shards of Parmesan.
Short of choking on a truffled ortolan, death by Parmesan (assuming it’s Reggiano, obviously) doesn’t sound the worst way to go.
On further reflection, the story could form the basis of a pitch for a new celebrity chef TV show. Who wouldn’t want to see Hugh F_W square up to Gordo each armed with a deli-purchase of their own choice?
