][1]I know that you are all waiting with bated breath for the results of the World Scotch Pie championship (judging tomorrow, results announced on Tue 30 Nov) but the last week has been a corker for the Scottish hospitality industry, especially the Italian parts of it.
Edinburgh’s Hotel Missoni, a 5pm member and no stranger to this blog, has just been named as the Best New Hotel in Europe at the World Travel Awards.

Meanwhile at the Pizza Pasta and Italian Food Industry Awards, aka the PAPAs, Scotland has spanked the rest of the UK.
Almost half of the independent winners came from either Edinburgh or Glasgow and the overall Pizza Chef of the Year award went to Darren Smith from the Battlefield Restaurant in Glasgow.
Edinburgh’s La Favorita took the platinum award for the Independent Pizza Restaurant of the Year while Glasgow’s Bella Napoli took gold.
The ever popular Di Maggio’s group of restaurants was highly commended in the Chain Award.
Glasgow’s L’Ariosto and Paperinos both took gold awards in the independents category.
