Congrats to all the winners from last night’s Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards.

The blog was at the bash at Dunblane’s Doubletree by Hilton Hydro and, in these troubled financial times, it was good to see so many of Scotland’s food and drink producers celebrating their sector’s substantial achievements.

Nick Nairn was in charge of the kitchens for the event and, in between the Solway Firth seabass and the Aberdeenshire hogget, he popped on stage to rally the troops.

‘We have the best food in the world,’ he reckoned. ‘No-one has better produce than Scotland.’

It’s a good point, made concisely. If you want to taste Nairn’s food then he is the exec chef at The Kailyard in the Dunblane Hydro.

The full list of award winners can be found here.

A special big shout out goes to the Spencerfield Spirit Company whose Edinburgh Gin scooped the Drink – Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic award.

It’s a favourite of this blogger.

Ross Marshall of The Roadhole Restaurant at The Old Course Hotel in St Andrews also merits mention for winning the Young Chef of the Year Award.

It was a close fight between Marshall and Scott Spink of Craigie’s Farm Deli and Cafe and David Goold who works in the kitchens at Cafe St Honore.
