The demo theatre at the Royal Highland Show will be cooking up a storm

Need a new combine harvester? Ever wondered how to build a coracle? Or perhaps you just want to get your hands on some of Scotland’s finest food and drink?

The Royal Highland Show, which starts at Ingliston, Edinburgh tomorrow and runs until Sunday, can meet all of the above requirements and many, many more.

This is the 171st time that the show has taken place and the organisers expect to shatter last year’s record attendance of 187,000.

Incredibly diverse, its origins lie in Scottish farming but, these days, it is much more than a chance for the nation’s farmers to meet up and admire each others coos.

From outdoor sports to rural crafts via music stages, it is a celebration of the countryside.

Naturally, food plays a large part in the show. The Scotland Food and Drink Theatre will be hosting nine cookery demos every day featuring chefs such as Lady Claire Macdonald of the Michelin-starred Kinloch Lodge on the Isle of Skye; Tom Lewis, proprietor of Monachyle Mhor at Balquhidder and Mikey Prentice from the First Coast bistro in the West of Edinburgh.

Around a hundred food producers are expected to be on site and selling their wares.
