Hotel du Vin Edinburgh: venue for the happy marriage of steak and oak-aged beer

Many people think that steak and red wine make the perfect marriage but a couple of imminent food and drink matching events aim to offer an alternative.

Independent brewers Innis and Gunn have teamed up with the Malmaison and Hotel du Vin crews for two nights of beer and steak matching.

Using meat from Donald Russell, there will be two Steak Out nights taking place at Malmaison in Aberdeen on Wednesday 22 September and at the Hotel du Vin in Edinburgh on Wednesday 12 October.

Each event will begin at 6.30pm with a ‘steak-out’ foreword and demonstration with the restaurant chefs taking guests through the range of steak cuts they will be enjoying.

Then  Innis & Gunn founder Dougal Sharp will introduce his range of oak-aged beers including a selection of the firm’s limited edition brews.

The menu has been tailor-made by the head chef at each hotel, using several different cuts of Donald Russell steak which will be showcased with the different styles of Innis & Gunn beers.

The events cost £45 a head.

If you can’t wait that long to get your teeth into a succulent sirloin then Hotel du Vin in Edinburgh are currently running a 15% discout on two courses when you book through 5pm.
