Carina Contini – first female chef in Slow Food Alliance

Congrats are due to Carina Contini who runs Centotre and the Scottish Cafe and Restaurant in Edinburgh with her husband Victor.

Carina has just become the first ever female chef in the worldwide Slow Food Alliance.

Carina, who has been a member of the Slow Food movement for eight years and a supporter for many years before that, said: ‘Slow Food brings to my mind the choices that are best for the environment, best for our communities, best for animal welfare, best for heritage and best for taste. In short, it’s all about good food enjoyed with our friends and families. Given all of this, I am absolutely thrilled that the Slow Food Alliance has named me as their first female Chef Alliance Member.’

She joins the ranks of chefs such as Michel Roux Jr, Georgio Locatelli and Raymond Blanc.

Founded in Italy in 1989, Slow Food is a global, grassroots movement which was set up to counter the rise of fast food and fast life. Slow Food works to reconnect people with where their food comes from and how it is produced so that they can be encouraged to choose tasty, nutritious food from sustainable, local sources. The organisation has over 100,000 members in 150 countries worldwide.

The start of 2012 has been a belter for the Continis. As well as the Slow Food award, the Scottish Café and Restaurant was given the Best Service award at the Scottish Restaurant Awards.
