Prawn dim sum

Stack Dim Sum Bar may not have the most evocative of names but the recently opened Edinburgh restaurant look as though it might be able to give the bigger and better established Saigon Saigon a run for its money in the dim sum stakes.

A small restaurant on Dalmeny Street, just off Leith Walk, it serves an impressive range of fried and steamed dim sum along noodle and rice dishes.

I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on regional variations on dumpling types but Stack sells everything from Chao Chou Province dumplings with their characteristic, thick pastry shells to Hong Kong style siu mai.

They also serve congee rice broth. Congee with marinated pork and thousand year egg is my idea of the perfect brunch food after a heavy night.

However, I draw the line at slow braised chicken feet with black pepper.
