The 5pm Dining blog has often wondered which is more popular in Glasgow: Indian food or Italian food?

With the opening of the new Indian Platform in the West End, diners can eat both in the same building.

The Indian Platform opened last week on Great Western Road in the building that also houses The Italian Bistro.

Former Kelvinside Railway Station

Originally, the building was Kelvinside Railway Station. While it has been a long time since trains stopped there, plenty of Italian food lovers have pulled in to the bistro over the last few years.

The Indian Platform sits above the Italian Bistro and is the brainchild of Nasreen Aksi, a former Scottish Asian Businesswoman of the Year.

Fresh tandoori dishes

Nas said: ‘The Indian Platform has its own kitchen and dedicated chef who is introducing a range of fresh tandoori and speciality dishes to this part of the West End. Our diners will enjoy a taste of exotic Indian cuisine in a fresh and luxurious environment inspired by the building’s railway heritage.’

As well as an extensive tandoori selection, The Indian Platform’s menu includes dishes such as the house specialities: murgh palakdaar; roshan lal; ginger chicken and saag plus south Indian chilli garlic chicken.

If there is a repeat of last year’s glorious summer then the restaurant’s large sun terrace may well prove popular in a couple of months time.
