There is much excitement on Edinburgh’s Bread Street as the Point Hotel becomes a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel.

From tomorrow, the venue will officially be known as the DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh City Centre.

The listed building, which looks like Edinburgh’s answer to NYC’s Flatiron building, dates back to 1892 but Hilton have just given it a multi-million refurbishment in preparation for the rebrand.

The refurbishment has been going on for some time. Last July, we blogged about the stylish makeover at the Bread Street Brasserie.

Pre-theatre bite

Less than five minutes from the Usher Hall, Traverse and Lyceum, it’s a cosmopolitan spot for a pre-theatre bite.

More recently, Monboddo bar has been restyled and very chic it is too.

The 5pm Dining blog has always had a soft spot for Monboddo. Not least because it’s huge windows are ideal for nebbing the colourful street life.

Monboddo features an all day menu of popular dishes such as burgers, steaks, fish ‘n’ chips, seafood sharing platters and, of course, pulled pork in a bun.

Cocktail expertise

The bar staff are also dab hands with a cocktail shaker.

As ever, the magnificent Sky Bar and its rooftop views of the Castle, is open from 7pm on the first Thursday of every month.

If you have never visited then you should make a note in your schedule for Thursday 3rd April. The skyline panorama, especially as the evenings grow longer, is really quite stunning.
