Our Old Town Local Voice, Sarah Gibson
Our Old Town Local Voice, Sarah Gibson

This week’s local voice is from regular restaurant goer and 5pm customer Sarah Gibson who tells us why she’s a fan of the Old Town in Edinburgh.

What do you most like about Edinburgh’s Old Town?

It’s very atmospheric and rich in history plus it has unique architecture.

What’s your favourite 5pm restaurant in the Old Town and why?

I love Boteco Do Brasil. It’s laid back, with fabulous cocktails (often with great value offers) and has very tasty Brazilian inspired food. It’s a real treat for jaded taste buds but there are a large selection of Brazilian style pizzas for the less adventurous in a dining group.

What’s your one favourite or memorable dish in a 5pm restaurant in Edinburgh’s Old Town?

I love the tiramisu from Ciao Roma. It’s a huge portion and perfectly balanced – a coffee and chocolate creamy heaven!

What do you most like about dining and going out in the Old Town?

There’s so much choice in this very attractive and historic area. It’s great for giving visiting friends and family to Edinburgh the guided tour. I know I’ll always be able to find a fabulous restaurant in the vicinity that will suit all in the group.

Describe your perfect day in Edinburgh’s Old Town.

A bracing hike around Holyrood Park, refuel with coffee and cake at Mimi’s Bakehouse on Canongate then take in the curiosities in the little shops around the Royal Mile, Victoria Street, Candkemakers Row and Grassmarket (or a day in the Museum on a Chambers Street if it’s raining!) followed by afternoon tea in Hotel Du Vin.

To end the day I’d take in a show or event followed by a few Brazilian tapas at Boteco Do Brasil and several Caprinhas!
