Guchhi’s fusion of modern Indian flavours and fresh seafood has made them a smash hit on Leith’s spice parade. Here are 5 reasons why we think you should give them a go.

1. Modern Indian cooking

Guchhi restaurant brings together the best of Indian culinary know how and freshly sourced seafood.

The chefs have worked across India for a number of years and absorbed the styles and specialities of each area into their cooking to bring a modern style of Indian cooking to Leith.

2. Seafood extravaganza

Chef and owner Vishant Das learned his chops in Goa, home of seafood in India, before a stint with the Loch Fyne restaurants. As a result, he is a man who knows how to make the most of his mussels. Guchhu ensure that the fish and shellfish used at the restaurant are from local suppliers who care about the environment and the seas.

From oysters with a curry crumb to chilli butter scallops via tandoori king prawns, the menu at Guchhi is a seafood lover’s delight.

Not that everything on Guchhi’s menu came from the sea. Lamb in mint sauce, chicken pakora, garlic chilli mushrooms and black lentil daal are all tasty alternatives to the seafood on offer.

3. Tapas options

As well as a comprehensive a la carte menu, Guchhi offers a tapas menu letting you try a little bit of lots of dishes across their seafood, Indian classics and vegetarian options.

Popular tapas include the chilli butter scallops, char-grilled king scallops topped with classic chilli butter and the lamb Karahi, diced lamb cooked in north Indian spices cooked with tomatoes, onion and green peppers.

4. Smart cocktails

The cocktail list at Guchhi is as colourful as the food and many of the drinks use exotic flavours and ingredients to give them an interesting new twist.

From a coconut daiquiri to a Hindi Punch via a Saffron Red Snapper, there is plenty of choice to get excited about.

First visit (Rating 5/5)

I found out about this place by email. Booked for early dinner, 6.30pm I went with my partner. We both enjoy indian food & the deal we went for was the £15.95 tapas menu. With a vast selection of food we left it to the very helpful waiter to choose. We were not disappointed, we had 6 starters between us. We had mussels, fish, chicken & veg dishes We then went on to have 4mains meals with rice & nan bread. We were asked if we wanted more, don’t think my body would have been able to take more food. From the moment we walked in till we left I cannot fault the food or the service. We will be back, soon I hope.

A little hidden Indian gem (Rating 4.6/5)

It would be quite easy to walk past this little Indian restaurant. It simply is a hidden gem. We got a deal from 5pm which included Indian tapas dishes and a drink each. I’d recommend this way of eating in this restaurant to anyone. You get a little taste of all the best dishes. And boy are they tasty dishes. Our favourite was the lamb and mint dish. Lovely.
