Neil Forbes: a dab hand with floury fingers and green fingers

Regular readers of the 5pm Dining blog will already be well acquainted with the foodie adventures of Neil Forbes, chef at Edinburgh’s Café St Honoré.

The restaurant recently won the Sustainable Business of the Year gong at the Catering in Scotland awards while Neil was awarded the Chef of the Year prize.

Today, Neil will be making one of his regular appearances on Radio Scotland’s Kitchen Garden programme.

Cooking live

Neil is heading up to the show’s Inverness studios where he will be cooking live in the BBC gardens.

This week, he is using cabbage to drum up some bubble ‘n’ squeak and will also be introducing lavender to his crème brulée.

One imagines the conversation will go something like this:

Neil: Lavender, I would like you to meet Monsieur Crème Brulée.

M. Crème Brulée: Enchanté, I am sure.

Express lunch

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, the show goes out from 1.05pm and is repeated on Sunday at 12.05pm.

If you would like to try Neil’s food, then there is of course the ever changing a la carte menu or you could dip your toes in the water with the restaurant’s express lunch menu.

Available Monday to Friday, this offers one course for £10.50 or two for £14.50.
