[A Buddy's special][1]
One down. Just 39 to go. This is a Buddy’s special.

The 5pm Dining blog is afraid. Very afraid.

Once more we are judging at Glasgow’s Best Burger Competition and the number of entries is heading towards a belt-busting 40.

We were on the judging panel at last year’s event when there was a mere twenty burgers to choose between.

As the field widens to double that, we are seriously considering investing in trousers with an ‘active’ waistband.

Burger fever

If ever you wanted a concrete example of just how much Glasgow has been swept up in the great burger fever then the success of the city’s Best Burger Competition is pretty conclusive.

As always, the Ad Lib in the Merchant City is hosting the event and the public are welcome to come along and cheer on their favourite burger vendors. The event takes place on Monday 26 September from 6pm.

Last year, Buddy’s BBQ and Burgers won. We reported on it here. They are back to defend their title this year along with, among many others, Bar Bloc, Max’s Bar and Grill, Jacker de Viande, Bread Meats Bread, Nice ‘n’ Sleazy and recently arrived contenders such as BRGR.

Meat sweats

As well as yours truly, the judging panel features Capital FM’s Jennie Cook; James Vs Burger blogger James Lees and actor Robert Florence along with The Herald’s food critic Ron McKenna.

STV Glasgow’s roving reporter Colin Stone will be judging the competition live on the Riverside Show.

Glasgow stand up comedian Garry Little will be the compere on the night.

I’ll be the one with fear in his eyes, meat sweats and a pack of Rennies clutched tightly in my paw.
