A warm welcome awaits diners at the Terrace Restaurant in the Crowne Plaza Edinburgh – Royal Terrace.

Yesterday, the 5pm Dining blog havered about the first Edinburgh Restaurant Festival which kicks off today.

Keen readers may recall we mentioned that some 60 odd restaurants are running special events and menus.

Among these is the Terrace Restaurant in the Crowne Plaza Edinburgh – Royal Terrace. With new chef Lukas Herba at the helm, the restaurant is offering a couple of extra perky dining options over the course of the festival.

Fish and fizz

First up, they are running a Fish and Fizz in the City promo for the duration of the festival until 23rd October.

Priced at £18 for two, diners can feast on Innis & Gunn beer-battered fish, fries, mushy peas and chippy sauce with a glass of Prosecco.

Five course tasting menu

Alternatively, put the kitchen through its paces on Saturday 18th October when it will be running a five course tasting menu which comes with the option of matched wines.

Complete with forest berries, wild mushrooms, chestnuts, beetroot and lamb, it is a very seasonal menu and one that shows off the kitchen’s canny local sourcing.

The menu is £49 per person, or £75 with wines matched to each course.

The Menu:

Squid ink, beetroot and goat’s cheese risotto

Poached cod fillet with fennel purée, balsamic caviar and spring onions

Champagne sorbet with forest berry syrup

Tian of lamb served with wild mushrooms, chestnut mashed potato and port jus

Elderberry panacotta with loganberry syrup

Colourful past

Just a stone’s throw from The Playhouse, the Terrace Restaurant, and the hotel it sits in, have quite a history.

The Terrace Restaurant is situated on Royal Terrace, one of the most prestigious addresses in Edinburgh. Designed by William Playfair in 1820, the terrace was completed in 1860.

The linguist Charles D Sarolea lived there for years.

A Professor at Edinburgh University, he had the largest private library in Europe – it was housed in what is now the hotel.
