The new range of Macsween products push the haggis boundaries.

The Macsween haggis family has some new arrivals. Never shy about expanding their range, the firm have just released a new Wild Boar haggis; a Chocolate and Chilli black pudding plus a Moroccan Spiced Veggie haggis.

The new products follow hot on the heels of last year’s special edition Three Bird and Venison releases.

Earthy cocoa

The Wild Boar also includes pear, wild mushrooms and spices among the ingredients while the Chocolate and Chilli black pudding contains earthy cocoa.

As well as seeds and beans, the Moroccan version is made with apricots, prune, ginger and lime. While the latter has no nuts, the seeds give it a pleasant nutty flavour.

The 5pm Dining blog tried them all out recently. Macsween provide lots of recipes here but we free styled it a little. We ate the Moroccan haggis with a couscous and it was fruity with a good, crunchy texture.

You could quibble that a vegetarian Moroccan mix is stretching the haggis definition a little but I could easily imagine eating this again.

Autumnal meal

Keeping it simple, we ate the Choc and Chilli black pudding with baked spuds and roasted, whole beetroots. If you are looking for a warming, rich and earthy autumn meal then this is the one for you.

We spread the Wild Boar haggis on toast. Gamey and with a good balance of sweet and savoury, it made a quick yet satisfying supper.
