The 5pm Dining blog had a guided tour of the newly opened Glenfarclas private dining and meeting room at Hutchesons earlier this week.

Owned and run by James and Louise Rusk, who also have The Butchershop Bar and Grill, Hutchesons restaurant and café bar launched in Hutcheson’s Hall on Ingram Street earlier this year.

Located on the building’s third floor, the Glenfarclas private dining room is the latest addition to the A-listed building.

Handsome décor

Designed to keep the original character of the 200 year-old building, the room is a warm and intimate space with luscious panelled walls and a dark, handsome decor. As well as displays of Glenfarclas bottles, the room is decorated with old, black and white pictures of the distillery as well as a rather fetching stag’s head.

Accommodating up to eighteen seated guests or thirty-five standing, the space is available to hire from breakfast through to dinner.

As you might expect, the room is kitted out for business use as well as celebratory meals. Along with a 60” Smart TV, there is WiFi and all the AV equipment you might need.

Glenfarclas Family Casks

In the ground floor bar, the gantry has been filled with an eye-catching array of 45 Glenfarclas Family Cask bottles.

Launched in 2007, the Family Casks is a unique collection of single cask whiskies dating back to 1953. Starting from £22.45 a dram, the price depends on the rarity of each bottle. Each vintage has its own tasting notes and characteristics provided by George Grant of Glenfarclas.

With bottles from every year between 1953 and 1998, the whiskies are proving popular with people who want to celebrate their birthdays by having a dram from the year of their birth.

Family-run distillery

The Family Casks display is part of an exclusive partnership with Glenfarclas and was arranged with George Grant, the sixth generation of the family-run, Speyside distillers.

Speaking about the unique partnership with Glenfarclas, James Rusk said: ‘It’s a real privilege to have all 45 vintages of these special Family Casks for our customers to experience right here at Hutchesons. Choosing to have a dram of Scotch malt whisky that was bottled in your year of birth is something very special and unique. Our customers can now choose to mark that special occasion in our private dining space or restaurant.’
