The Lake of Menteith Hotel is snug in the winter.

It’s all happening at the Lake of Menteith Hotel in Perthshire.

Their Head Chef Dan Bryant has just returned from a two year stint working on America’s Eastern Shore. It will be interesting to see what influence his travels have on the hotel’s restaurant menus.

Wine dinners

At the same time, the hotel’s popular Winter Wine series of themed dinners has just got underway for the ninth time.

The next one, taking place on Friday 5th December 2014 will be looking at the wines of Hungary.

To be honest, the 5pm Dining blog’s knowledge of Hungarian wine begins and ends with sweet Tokaji plus a brief dalliance with Bull’s Blood in our younger years.

Artisan wineries

Apparently, we are missing out on a boom in Hungary’s small, artisan wine makers.

Other Winter Wine dinners will feature wine regions such as Burgundy and Rioja as well as wines from Australia, Portugal. South Africa and The United States.

You can see the full list here.

Ian Fleming, owner of the hotel, commented, ‘We never envisaged when we started the Winter Wine series nine years ago just how successful it would become. Now in our ninth year, we have a programme of fourteen events inspired by wine regions as varied as Tokaji in North Hungary to Cloudy Bay in New Zealand and the innovative vineyards of Chile. Regardless of which event tempts your palate, the offering is consistently one of exceptional food and wine, a warm lakeside welcome and the chance to enjoy a relaxing overnight stay in a room of your choice.’

Refurbished in the style of a New England waterfront hotel, the Lake of Menteith nestles on the edge of its namesake in Perthshire.

The happy recipient of multiple awards, the hotel is only an hour’s drive from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Big Deal on overnight stay

You can book into the restaurant at the Lake of Menteith and browse their menus though their entry on 5pm Dining.

At the moment, 5pm Big Deal also has an offer on overnight accommodation at the hotel: £79 for an overnight stay with tea and scones on arrival plus a full Scottish breakfast.

Vouchers are valid until the end of March 2015.

Did anyone mention Christmas presents?
