The Chippy Doon The Lane has updated the concept of the traditional fish and chip shop for the 21st century, with a fresh, contemporary space on McCormick Lane, just off Buchanan Street in Glasgow’s city centre. Battered fish served with hand-cut chips and home made tartar sauce are the core of the menu and customers can choose between coley, plaice, haddock, cod, lemon sole, scampi or monkfish. Lovers of chip shop tradition can crown fish suppers with a pickled onion or even the more daring pickled egg.

The Tearooms at Butterfly and the Pig

A fish tea doesn’t have to be just for grannies. The gorgeous Tearooms at Butterfly and the Pig, which is decorated in a vintage style complete with doilies, china cutlery and mismatched furniture, offers a traditional high tea offer on 5pm, which includes a pot of tea, a main course and a slice of cake fresh from their homemade cake cabinet. Their battered fish and chips with mushy peas goes particularly well washed down with tea and cake.

Simply Fish

Aiming to prove that Scotland’s waters provide some of the finest seafood in the world, Simply Fish in Cleveden takes its fish seriously. On the menu more adventurous fish dishes sit alongside traditional favourites, including their fish and chips which are beer battered and served with hand cut chips and tartare sauce.

£12 for 3 courses on set menu + Bellini cocktail at Simply Fish on 5pm.

The Grumpy Goat

It’s laidback atmosphere makes it an enjoyable place to dine and all their ingredients are sourced, as far as is possible, from local producers with an emphasis on free range, sustainable and ethically supplied produce.

Waverley Tea Rooms

The large open air terrace is also an al fresco option worth remembering when the warmer months arrive. Their menu is made up of traditional favourites and their fish and chips, a crispy battered haddock served with chips, tartare sauce, peas and a lemon wedge, is consistently a popular option.
