The 5pm Dining blog has been enjoying many of the Valentine-themed press releases which have been flooding our inbox of late.

In particular, we chuckled at a recent heart-shaped missive from Aldi.

The popular discount retailer is promising to ‘make this Valentine’s Day one to remember’ thanks to their special Valentine’s Day pork steak.

‘For all the romantics out there’, the release continues, Aldi will be selling a heart-shaped cut of Scottish pork.

We’re sure it is lovely pork but can’t help but feel that Aldi has missed a trick.

Interflora’s slogan used to be ‘Say it with flowers’.

Surely Aldi should have gone for ‘Say it with pork’?

Whether you want to say it with pork, steak, oysters or even a goat’s cheese salad, there are plenty of suggestions for romantic restaurants in Glasgow and Edinburgh on the 5pm Dining blog.

UK’s most romantic destination?

Another release trumpeted that London is now the UK’s most romantic destination. According to a survey, the English capital beat the Lake District and Cornwall into second and third place respectively.

Edinburgh was voted joint fourth most romantic destination alongside The Cotswolds.

Bizarrely, Glasgow was voted the fifth least romantic destination in the UK along with Coventry. Those surveyed had obviously never enjoyed a picnic in Glasgow Botanics on a summer’s day.

Anyway since Glasgow tallied just 4% of the least romantic vote, we don’t think that the city’s tourist authorities need to panic any time soon.

As well as options by Glasgow and Edinburgh, there are great deals on places from Perthshire to the Isle of Skye.
