Nonna Gina’s opens in Newton Mearns today.

In Newton Mearns, it’s goodbye to Il Pavone Sud and hello to Nonna Gina’s which welcomes the public for the first time today.

Il Pavone Sud, the Italian restaurant in the Avenue Shopping Centre, shut its doors on the 17th of March for a comprehensive refit, refurbishment and re-brand.

Although there have been many changes, the restaurant is still owned and run by the same people that have sister restaurant Il Pavone in Princes Square.

Cool and contemporary Italian

Described as a ‘cool and contemporary, new Italian style restaurant and bar’, Nonna Gina’s promises classic Italian recipes and state-of-the-art cocktails.

As well as traditional Italian recipes, customers can look forward to a pizza burger which will be ‘prepared in a calzone-style with a variety of toppings’.

Gianni Di Meo, manager, said: ‘Named after my grandmother, Nonna Gina’s Italian Restaurant and Bar has been conceived to offer customers a warm Italian welcome in a family-orientated environment that will appeal to the young and the young at heart alike.

‘In addition to the range of classic Italian dishes that customers would expect, Nonna Gina’s also offers children’s and gluten-free menus, as well as a wide selection of starters and desserts.’

Panther milk at Tabac

Tabac on Mitchell Lane was also due to launch this evening but the opening party has now been put back until tomorrow night.

The bar and grill is the brainchild of Fergus McVicar of 5pm members Chinaski’s and Black Sparrow.

We’re looking forward to venturing into Tabac’s Panther Milk backroom bar. Open late at the weekends, it will be a hotspot for those mad, bad and dangerous enough to try the legendary leche de pantera cocktail.
