The Pompadour by Galvin: setting for the first Societea event.
The Pompadour by Galvin: setting for the first Societea event.

This 5pm Dining blog scribbler has been away on his hols for the last couple of weeks so we appreciate that we have left this post a little late.

However, it’s a doozie so we’ll ping it up anyway just on the off chance that you may be free at short notice.

The Pompadour by Galvin, part of Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh, is hosting a rather special event tomorrow afternoon.

Award-winning author

The award-winning, Edinburgh-based author Sara Sheridan will be giving a talk on the history of the lady in British society in the elegant restaurant.

The afternoon will begin at 1pm with a glass of Champagne in the salon. Guest will then sashay through to the dining room for a spectacular afternoon tea and Sara’s talk.

The author of several books, including a number of historical novels, Sara will be looking at the role of British women from the mid-17th century into the early 20th century.

The topics covered include why social status was important; how the terms of ‘being a lady’ changed; the women who pushed and ultimately altered those boundaries and why female material is so hard to come by for historians.

Sara will then mingle with guests answering questions and signing copies of her best-selling Mirabelle Bevan Mysteries books, which everyone in attendance will receive.

The afternoon is the first in a series of Societea events being held at The Pompadour by Galvin. Further events are planned for April, May, June, September and October this year.

The event takes place on Thursday 12th March and runs 1pm-4pm. It costs £50 a head.

It would make for a very sophisticated Mother’s Day gift.
