La Petite Mort is looking alluring.
La Petite Mort is looking alluring.

Last week, the 5pm Dining blog penned a brief post about La Petite Mort, a new restaurant which recently opened in Edinburgh’s Tollcross.

As you may recall, the restaurant is in the side bar of the lovely Bennets Bar. Established in 1875, Bennets is a proper pub with one of the most beautiful wooden gantries in all Edinburgh.

The good people of La Petite Mort have got in touch since our blog and filled us in with more info.

It turns out that Bennets Bar has been taken over by James and Jacqui Nisbet, the same husband and wife team that have been involved in the Blue Blazer on Spittal Street and the Kil-der-kin pizza pub place on the Canongate.

The redevelopment of the side bar into La Petite Mort is part of their plan to ensure that Bennets Bar keeps going strong for another hundred years or so.

Head Chef Neil Connor uses locally sourced products to produce dishes from around the globe while the bar does a great line in Scottish, craft beers and small batch cocktails.

Savour’s second coming

It turns out that La Petite Mort is one of the many intriguing Edinburgh businesses taking part in the second Savour festival at Summerhall this summer.

Taking place during the afternoon of Sunday 5th July, the event promises an afternoon of edible entertainment with a mix of artisan producers, local restaurants, craft beers, puddings purveyors, gins, mixologists and wine sellers.

You can see the full line-up so far and buy tickets from here.

We liked the below photo showing a number of exhibitors including 5pm regulars One Square and Edinburgh Larder Bistro. Unless your eyesight is hawk-like then you may be better off looking here if you want to read the captions.
