29 – The Grill on the Square

Popular with many 5pm Diners, 29 in Royal Exchange Square has an educated steak menu of primarily Scottish beef but also featuring Wagyu and USDA beef.

We spoke to Head Chef David Friel who gave us some fantastic insights into the different cuts of steak available from a cow.

Meat Bar

Meat by name, meat by nature, and you’ll find a good bavette steak at The Meat Bar. The Bavette meat is found once the flank and fat has been taken off and needs to be cooked expertly to make the most of this, traditionally less tender, meat. Aspiring Don

The place does smell a bit of smoked meat but I guess that’s you be expected. The chicken liver pate with apricot chutney was delicious as was the bavette stea, which was cooked perfectly medium rare. The rabbit and bacon meatballs were good. Service was excellent, really friendly and attentive.

The Honours, Glasgow Malmaison

Sharing is caring, so they say, and The Honours 5pm’s Chateaubriand offer (available on weekends only) is ideal for meat lovers who want stare lovingly into each other’s eyes over a delicious cut of meat.

If you didn’t know already The Honours was developed by Michelin-starred chef Martin Wishart and this reputation and quality has been translated into the Honours’ dishes.

The best selling dish on the menu, this is a magnificent 500g piece of the finest Donald Russell grass fed, dry aged steak.

The Chateaubriand comes with duck fat chips, onion rings, green salad and sauce béarnaise and includes a small glass of house wine plus tea/coffee per person – £50 per couple.

Barolo Grill

Wednesday is steak night at Barolo Grill, an Italian city centre restaurant who’s steaks are matured on the bone for flavour. The restaurant is a member of the Scottish Beef Club ensuring quality and provenance in their meat.

On Wednesdays you can two sirloin steaks with sauce, chips and a bottle of wine for £40 (plus for the month of May a dram of Whyte & MacKay). The sirloins are 21 day dry aged and from award winning butcher Simon Howie of Perth.

Le Bistro Beaumartin

A little French bistro in the centre of Glasgow, Le Bistro Beaumartin have a fantastic offer on 5pm for sirloin steak frites which you can enjoy with a delicious bottle of French wine in authentic Gallic surroundings.
