Black Dove Dining is about to take flight in Shawlands.

The Hug and Pint, Black Dove, Bar Soba, The Bowery and Mango are all getting ready to welcome customers in Glasgow.

It may be a bank holiday Monday but Glasgow’s restaurateurs are not at rest. They never are. In fact, the 5pm Dining blog suspects that a number of them don’t actually sleep. At least not at night.

As their opening day approaches, the owners of the following are likely to be busier than ever.

Black Dove

First up, Black Dove is scheduled to open on the Kilmarnock Road in Shawlands this Friday. The chef patron is Chris Rouse who won the Best Italian Chef prize at last year’s Scottish Italian Awards.

Open from breakfast through to dinner, the menu ranges from small plates of, for example, scallops and Stornoway black pudding in a Glayva sauce, to fillet steaks which have been hung for 32 days before being gently cooked in a water bath and finished in a hot pan.

Bar Soba Merchant Square

Back in the centre of town, Bar Soba is expanding. The Mitchell Lane and Byres Road restaurants are about to be a joined by a new branch of the pan-Asian bar and kitchen in Merchant Square.

The Bowery

Not so far away, The Bowery Bar and Restaurant is gearing up for launch on Saturday. The Queen Street venture promises lots of cocktails and what looks like some seriously mouth-watering cuts of meat.

Mango

Over on Sauchiehall Street, Juan Chihuahua has left town. In its place, is Mango which is billed as a late night Latin American club, bar and restaurant. The opening date has yet to be announced.

Brazilliant

Sticking with South America, and Sauchiehall Street, Brazilliant is a new churrascaria and steakhouse which is taking shape in the Beresford building.

The Hug and Pint

And have we mentioned The Hug and Pint on Great Western Road?

Taking its name from the Arab Strap album, Monday at The Hug and Pint, the new bar and music venue is a joint venture between Brian Reynolds of Synergy Concerts and The Wickerman Festival and Colin Campbell of The Squid and Whale.

A mid-June opening is expected. The Hug and Pint is on the former site of The Liquid Ship and Roxy 171.
