The sun is out and so is the BBQ at One Square.

Hello sunshine! Lovely to see_ _you again, old chum.

Folding up the extra thick woolly jumpers is always a happy time of year but slipping into your summer wardrobe (I don’t really have one) is not the only way to tell the season is changing.

Another sure fire signal is the arrival of The Terrace barbecue at One Square on Edinburgh’s Festival Square.

Castle views

As well as great views of the Castle – perfect for showing off to visitors – it has outdoor heaters for those days when the sun isn’t quite as toasty as one might hope.

Weather permitting, The Terrace at One Square is open every Saturday from 1pm to 5pm. The barbecue is fuelled with oak and hickory charcoal which gives all the dishes a lovely char grilled tang.

Guests can enjoy a choice of informal bites from the barbecue (from £4 to £14) or opt for two dishes served with bread and two side dishes (£14.95 per head). Grill dishes on offer include Scotch beef brisket spiced with One Square Gin-botanical rub or an Inverurie beef burger with smoked Cuddy Cave’s cheese.

Seafood options include skewers of Thai-citrus marinated whole king prawns with fresh mango along with vegetarian dishes such as marinated tempeh.

Gin cocktails

As we blogged a few months back, One Square recently launched their own gin. Distilled nearby at Summerhall Distillery, One Square Gin forms the basis of several summery cocktails which are served on The Terrace.

We liked the sound of the One Square Gin Fizz – fresh lime juice, elderflower syrup and clapped mint leaves, topped with soda water.

Just the thing to take the edge off a man’s thirst on a hot Saturday afternoon.
