There are lots of new places which have either recently opened or will do soon in both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Strap in.

In Glasgow this weekend, Accento Café joined the Finnieston party when it opened on Claremont Street.

As well as Sardinian and Italian dishes, the caff will sell specialist ingredients and products such as Sardinian honey and pasta.

According to this STV piece, the name is both a pun on the word accent and the Sardinian toast ‘a cento’ – which wishes that the recipient of the toast will live to be a hundred.

Apparently, it is fairly common for Sardinians to reach triple figures.

Seems less likely around these parts but we appreciate the sentiment.

Bathtub time

Meanwhile, on Bath Street, the former Oscar’s Bar is becoming Bathtub & Co. Specialising in gin-based cocktails, they aim to open in the final week of July.

Judging from their Facebook feed, it could all be very adventurous. Da Mhile seaweed gin is one of the brands they have been experimenting with.

More info as we get it.

Florence and the afternoon tea

We also hear, via the well-informed Dram, that Bar Florence is shaping up on Roman Road in Bearsden. Wine, cocktails and vintage afternoon tea are planned.

The Dude abides and expands

At the other end of the city, Lebowski’s have opened a pop-up on Nithsdale Street in the Southside. White Russians, live music and food are all promised.

Set sail for the Brig

On the other side of the M8, Bar Brig is now trading in the former site of Bar Seinne on Leith Walk.

Your 5pm Dining correspondent never ventured into Bar Seinne but we would bet that, unlike now, it didn’t sell craft beers, Porn Star Martinis or indeed quinoa and aubergine salads.
