Friday – the sweetest day of the working week.
And if you’re looking for new places for a small libation, here is a rundown of recently opened and soon to launch joints.
The Tank
On Edinburgh’s ever mutating Cowgate, The Tank has opened. Like many a Cowgate bar, it is licensed until 3am.
Regular live music, a burger menu and Krusovice lager served fresh from the tank are among the other attractions.
Chop House Leith
Staying in Edinburgh, a few weeks back, we mentioned that Chop House Leith was coming together on Constitution Street. They now have a confirmed opening date: Saturday 19th September.
Taking star billing on the menu will be the locally sourced beef. The meat will be butchered in-house and then dry-aged for up to 90 days using Himalayan salt and a centrepiece dry-aging fridge.
The steaks are then cooked to order over an open-flame charcoal grill that was custom-designed and hand-crafted by a local metal-worker.
Look out for more info in a couple of weeks.
Bavarian Brau Haus
In Glasgow, the October launch of the Bavaria Brau Haus has been widely reported. The new Bavarian-style beer hall is taking over the Bothwell Street premises formerly occupied by the Madness Theatre of Fun.
Delicious German beers and hearty Bavarian grub are planned. Make mine a pork knuckle.
Chequers
We also hear that a new cocktail bar is opening on Great Western Road. Chequers aims to offer ‘great cocktails combined with top quality bar food in an intimate, speakeasy-styled bar’. More news when we get it.
Warehouse
Also in the pipeline is Warehouse. ‘Quality vibes/food and libations’ are promised in the new Glassford Street venture. The premises formerly housed Peckhams.
The team behind are also behind the imminent Bathtub & Co, a gin-focused bar on Bath Street.
Bottoms up!
