The 5pm Dining blog hears that The Trading House, a new café restaurant, is set to open on St Vincent Place in Glasgow on the 5th of October.

The first branch of the brand launched in London. Living Ventures Restaurants is the parent company. They also own brands such as Gusto, Red Door and Blackhouse The Grill on the Corner.

I think I am right in saying that they also plan to open a branch of their bar brand The Alchemist in the city.

British G ‘n’ T list

The Trading House bills itself as ‘Frontier importers and exporters of particular and peculiar eccentricities, curiosities and antiquities. Offering a soon-to-be world-famous selection of Trading House logospiced-twist cocktails, a traditionally British G&T list, Champagne, wine, and a vast worldwide selection of craft beers, ales and ciders. Food is inspired by the deli, rotisserie and BBQ’.

The theme of the place seems to be inspired by the trading posts of the Georgian/Victorian era. The theme extends to the food with the list of starters including sardines in a tin as well as more contemporary options such as the basket of wings with chipotle crème fraiche.

Globe trotting dishes

In keeping with the theme, much of the menu is sourced from the four corners of the world. Malaysian chicken curry, lamb tagines and lamb koftas all put in an appearance.

Other items are trad British. The lamb hotpot with gravy; fish ‘n’ chips with mushy peas and the gammon cutlet with fried egg and chips spring to mind.

The cocktail list looks worth exploring and this blogger was drawn to the strong choice of not just gins but also different tonics with which to mix them.

The Trading House promises live music every night.
