Forget haggis neeps and tatties – Scottish people are more likely to favour chicken tikka masala.

The number of Indian restaurants in Glasgow and Edinburgh is proof Scotland can’t get enough of curries.

With this in mind, here’s the Indian restaurant picks from our £12 dining sale.

Punjabi Charing Cross, Glasgow

Punjabi Charing Cross

Open seven days a week, Punjabi Charing Cross specialises in Punjabi dishes as well as more general Indian cuisine, from recipes which have been handed down through the restaurant’s long history. Popular Punjabi specials include starters like the sea bass, mussels and lamb chops. Among the main courses, the lamb mulaidhar comes highly recommended – lean lamb flavoured with spinach, chilli and coriander in a creamy sauce.

£12 for poppadoms & spiced onions, starter & popular dish on a la carte menu + accompaniments + tea/coffee at Punjabi Charing Cross on 5pm.

Masala Twist City Centre, Glasgow

Mintleaf Edinburgh

At Mintleaf in Edinburgh’s Leith, diners never need to decide between eating their favourite Thai or Indian dishes – they can have both. Guests can kick off with a classic Thai tom yum gai soup or go Indian and order pakora, samosa or even a Pathia style sea bass starter. The cross country choice continues among the main courses where Punjabi style lamb, chicken kormas and sizzling tandoori dishes rub shoulders with fragrant fishcakes, Thai curries and stir fries.

£12 for 2 courses on pre-theatre menu at Mintleaf on 5pm Dining.

India Quay, Glasgow

India Quay

India Quay on Finnieston Street has terrific views overlooking the River Clyde and Squinty Bridge. A short distance from the Scottish Hydro, Clyde auditorium and SECC, it is as popular with pre and post concert diners as it is during the day with office workers on lunch. Customer favourites such as Ceylonese korma, chicken tikka chasni and lamb rogan gosht feature on the menu, along with innovative additions such as the cheese, chilli and coriander naan, and the chicken tikka sharabi (a dish that simmers chicken in a traditional sauce but adds a measure of brandy for an extra kick).

£12.00 for 2 courses on pre-theatre menu + tea/coffee at India Quay on 5pm Dining.
