If you think that you have a working relationship with Lady Luck, you may wish to be at Glasgow’s Corinthian Club this Friday as they unveil their new Cotton Club casino.

Jazz-era Harlem

The new venture is designed to evoke Jazz-era Harlem and will offer a 1920s style boutique casino and cocktail lounge.

Set over two tiers, the casino will provide electronic gaming on the ground floor which opens at noon and closes at 6am.

Downstairs, in the space formerly occupied by the Mash & Press cellar bar, there will be live tables offering American roulette, blackjack, three card poker and punto banco.

Downstairs is open 7pm to 6am.

Speakeasy feel

The entire venture will have a 1920’s speakeasy feel. Scott Kinkaid, Operations Manager of The Cotton Club, said, ‘The 1920s speakeasy vibe will be felt throughout the casino and will be a key part of the overall experience – in everything from the dusky atmosphere and music to the staff’s vintage, bespoke uniforms.’

The new design comes from Jim Hamilton whose previous projects include Blythswood Square in Glasgow; Forgan’s in St Andrews and the recent revamp of Tigerlily in Edinburgh.

This 5pm Dining blog scribbler has avoided casino card tables for a number of years. When staff unexpectedly started wishing me happy birthday then it seemed like a sign that I had become too valued a customer.

Late night bar

Not that you need to be playing the tables to enjoy the Cotton Club. The bar area, which features some very enviable booth seating as well as a seating area in The Vault, also serves cocktails, beer, wine and late night snacks.

We like the sound of their Smoky Old Fashioned – Woodford Reserve Bourbon, maple syrup, Old Fashioned bitters and applewood smoke chips.

The bar snacks range from simple bowls of edamame beans with soy and ginger to croque monsieurs, sliders and large plates of crispy duck.

Should you need an excuse to visit, 5pm Dining is always running offers with the restaurant in the Corinthian Club. Between noon and 5pm today, you can enjoy two courses from the market menu plus a glass of wine for £13.50.

We also have a Big Deal on a whisky tasting event taking place in the Corinthian Club in January courtesy of the Rare Malt Whisky Company.
