Tony's new cold cure has yet to catch on.
Tony’s new cold cure has yet to catch on.

When the 5pm Dining blog last spoke to Chef Tony Singh in the summer, he was eager to point out that partnerships were the way forward for him.

Come 2016 he will be seeing how the dice land when he opens a new restaurant in partnership with the Alea Casino at Springfield Quay in Glasgow.

Exact dates are unclear but the new venture, to be called Tasty, is scheduled to open early next year.

While he has run pop-ups in Glasgow before, this will be his first full restaurant in the city. Tony’s Leith background has always been a big part of his character but he is claiming Glaswegian citizenship by right of his Mum who was born and brought up in Glasgow.

Global street food mash up

Cate Devine was first to air the story in The Herald yesterday. According to her report, the menu will be a mid-priced ‘Gallus’ affair based on Tony’s Indian/Scots/global street food mash-up style.

Last summer, when Mr McT did his Road Trip pop-up at Metro Brasserie in Edinburgh’s Apex International Hotel, he had plenty of takers for dishes such as his chicken tikka pie, Punjabi BBQ sweetcorn and haggis pakora.

Diners can look forward to dishes in a similar vein when Tasty opens. These street food options will be supplemented by a selection of high rolling ‘Glasvegas’ dishes such as lobster thermidor and a range of steaks.

Celebrity Mastermind

Over the last couple of years, the larger-than-life chef has been carving a respectable TV career as the presenter of shows such as The Incredible Spice Men and Tony Singh’s India.

Despite his new restaurant venture keeping him busy, he is unlikely to disappear from our screens anytime soon. In fact, he has already recorded an edition of Celebrity Mastermind which will be on BBC1 at 7pm on Tue 22 December.
