In recent 5pm Dining blogs, we have suggested places to celebrate Burns Night in Glasgow and we’ve also drawn your attention to a couple of Burns events in Edinburgh.

Namely, the Burns Supper taking place in the Bread Street Brasserie on Saturday 23 January and the Naan O’Shanter haggis and naan scoffing event taking place at VDeep.

Natch, there are loads more Burns events being planned by Edinburgh restaurateurs. Here’s a few to chew over.

The Printing Press

We’ll start with a dram. The Printing Press Bar and Kitchen on George Street is dishing up a special Burns cocktail that will be available on the menu next week. Mixologists at The Printing Press have created the Robert Burns, a combination of Johnnie Walker Black, Maraschino Liqueur, Antica Formula and Angostura bitters.

We have yet to taste it but we’re fairly confident that the Robert Burns will put hairs on your chest. It is available exclusively at The Printing Press Bar and Kitchen for £8.95 the week commencing 25 January.

Contini ceilidhs

The Burns Supper taking place on Mon 25 January at Contini Cannonball has sold out (check for returns) but, at the time of writing, there are still tickets for tonight’s Burns Supper Ceilidh in the Contini’s Scottish  Café and Restaurant on The Mound.

The Saturday ceilidh at The Scottish Café and Restaurant has sold out but again you could check for returns if you have your heart set on Saturday night shenanigans.

Ghillie Dhu

At the other end of Princes Street, Ghillie Dhu is well known for its ceilidhs so it comes as no surprise that it is pushing the boat out for Burns.

From today right up until Burns Night, they are offering a package of drams, classic Scottish dishes, jigs, reels and a piped in haggis. Full details are here.

Grant’s Family Reserve Highball

Of course, doing the Dashing White Sergeant with a belly full of haggis and neeps is not everybody’s idea of the perfect night out. For those who prefer to open a book of Burns’ poetry while sipping a whisky in their favourite armchair, here’s an easy recipe for a highball made with Grant’s Family Reserve.

Grant’s Highball

Ingredients

50ml Grant’s Family Reserve

Ginger ale

Dash of Angostura biters

Garnish with an orange wedge

Fill a tall glass with ice cubes and add the Grant’s Family Reserve. Top up with ginger ale and a few drops of Angostura bitters. Garnish with the orange.

Slainte!
