Forget learning a new language or losing weight – here at 5pm we like to make resolutions we’re more likely to keep, such as trying out new restaurants in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

We all have that restaurant that’s been in the back of our mind for ages but life and various other boring activities have prevented us from visiting. Here’s the Glasgow and Edinburgh restaurants our 5pm staff members are determined to try in 2016.

Atlantic Brasserie and Kampung Ali – Jonathan Trew, Food Blogger

Atlantic Brasserie: one of Glasgow's new openings in 2015.

“In Glasgow, I want to have a neb at the recently opened Atlantic. It sits just below the the very swish Anchor Line on St Vincent Place and is run by the same people. It promises classic French dishes along with rotisserie chicken. French food remains my all time favourite and roast chicken is the food of the gods. Any restaurant that offers both has to be checked out.”

Kampung Ali

“I’ve always had a thing for South East Asian food but that craving for spicy, clean flavours goes into overdrive during the colder months. Kampung Ali on Fountainbridge is always a good place to indulge. It’s the newer sister restaurant to the Kampong Ah Lee on the Southside. If the Southside restaurant feels like a student canteen, the Fountainbridge restaurant is more comfortable. Both offer keenly priced Malaysian dishes. Big thumbs up for the roti canai – flatbreads with curry sauce – plus the roast duck rice.”

Number 16 – Maureen McKendry, Marketing Executive

Number16

“I know this sounds ridiculous due to its years as one of Glasgow’s most highly regarded restaurants, but I still haven’t dined in Number 16. I’ve lost count of the number of people who have raved about it to me, and when my pickiest friend ever who is a renowned food snob told me he’d eaten the best meal he’d ever had in Glasgow there I knew I had to try it in 2016.”

Brasserie Les Amis – Daniel Strachan, Business Development Manager

“One of the many new Edinburgh restaurants to 5pm that I would like to visit is Brasserie Les Amis. The restaurant only opened during the summer but with a modern, fresh look and a wonderful selection of French & Scottish cuisine it is somewhere that I really need to try out. The restaurant has a fabulous deli counter for takeaway pastries and sandwiches and with the location being in the centre of town on Morrison Street, I really have no excuse not to pop in for a taste!”

La Parmigiana – Ruth Broers, Marketing Manager

La Parmigiana: no bought-in pasta here

“I really want to go to La Parmigiana in 2016. It would definitely be a treat, but it is such a historic restaurant that is well known for its quality. It’s fancy and intimate, and as it’s only five minutes from my flat it really is about time I visited.”
