The team behind Glasgow’s two WEST venues – WEST at Glasgow Green and West on the Corner – have been busy. First up, the brewery on Glasgow Green have just launched NIX, a new brand of alcohol-free beer.

Zero alcohol

NIX: nada, no, nae alcohol.
NIX: nada, no, nae alcohol.

Bavarian for ‘nothing’, NIX comes in two forms: a lager and a wheat beer. According to WEST boss, Petra Wetzel, ‘The major problem with alcohol-free beer to date has been that it usually tastes like wet cardboard – NIX tastes much, much better than that. While NIX lager is cool, crisp and clean-tasting, NIX wheat is fruity and refreshing.

‘Both represent the perfect blend of our Glaswegian heart and German head and both are a natural extension of our adherence to the Reinheitsgebot of 1516; the German purity law which prescribed the use of only barley, hops, yeast and water in beer making.  No chemicals. No preservatives. No artificial flavours. Now no alcohol.’

Tenth birthday

WEST at Glasgow Green celebrates its tenth birthday next month and lots of fun events are planned. If you can’t wait until then, you might want to toddle along on a Wednesday night when they run open folk music sessions.

Meanwhile, over at WEST on the Corner, on Woodlands Road, they have live music sessions, often with a slight Americana twang, every Saturday afternoon from 3pm.

German beer, German dishes

WEST at Glasgow Green is currently running a 5pm offer where you can have a main course from the Templeton menu plus a beer for a tenner. The offer runs noon to 8pm.

WEST on the Corner is doing a 5pm offer of two courses from the market menu plus a seasonal beer for £12. The offer runs noon to 9pm.
