Feast at Mhor Fest.

Without wishing to sound like a dodgy late night TV ad, there is a lot of no strings attached foodie fun to be had this weekend.

First up, we’ll mention the Traquair Medieval Fair, or rather Fayre, on the grounds that it will feature Ye Olde Pizza Oven and an ale brewed especially for the festival.

However, our main focus is the Mhor Festival which is taking place Friday 27-Sunday 29 May at Monachyle Mhor Farm, Balquhidder, Perthshire.

Pop-ups

Run by Tom and Lisa Lewis, proprietors of the Mhor mini-empire, it is billed as a weekend where you can ‘play, sing, dance, cook, learn, chill’.

Food plays a huge part in the festival with a cake competition, bread-making comp and omelette challenge all part of the line-up.

Fred Berkmiller and Neil Forbes are two of the chefs cooking at The Great Scottish Feast.

There will also be pop-ups from Ocho and Section 33. The latter promises a five-course tasting menu inspired by seasonal Scottish produce.

The headline attraction on the food front is The Great Scottish Feast. Tom Lewis will joined in the kitchen by top chefs Andrew Fairlie, Roy Brett, Fred Berkmiller and Neil Forbes.

Mr Fairlie needs no introduction and Messrs Brett, Berkmiller and Forbes head up the kitchens at Ondine, the Escargot restaurants and Cafe St Honoré.

Seats are limited to a hundred and distributed by lottery.

Naturally, guests who don’t get into the feast won’t starve. There will be plenty of great food stalls open throughout the weekend and there are cooking/BBQ areas.

Mini-Olympics

Moving away from the food, there will be a raft race, zip slide, a mini-Olympics, a pop quiz, bands and DJs like Harri and Mark Robb.

There will also be theatre. A Play, A Pie and A Pint will be presenting two short comedies by the award-winning writer Claire Downie.

Put your hands together for Bonfire Night and Arsehammers.
