The 5pm Dining blog has had a long love affair with the spectacular desserts created by the Scottish chef Helen Vass.

The pastry chef at Number 16 on Byres Road, Helen was one of the three-strong team that won the  BBC’s Bake Off Crème de la Crème competition in May.

We interviewed Helen about her baking background earlier this year and she kindly gave us her recipe for the best ever chocolate brownie.

If the pics of her fantastic creations have you licking your lips then you may be interested in a pop-up dessert restaurant which Helen is running at Studio 93 in Glasgow’s West End.

On Sunday 17th July, Helen will be showcasing her desserts over two sittings in the pop-up. Taking place 1t 12.30pm and from 3.30pm, the event includes an amuse bouche followed by three different desserts paired with wine, coffee with macarons and a mini-box of chocs containing three hand-made chocolates.

Informal afternoon

The desserts are a raspberry, mascarpone and pistachio entremet, as seen on Crème de la Crème; a chocolate cremeux with olive oil ice cream and sourdough toast and, to finish, olive oil cake with white chocolate cremeux and caramelised muesli with mandarin foam.

The desserts will be inspired by Helen’s time working as a pastry chef in Barcelona. It will be an informal affair with Helen serving the desserts and talking about them.

The price of the dessert menu with wine pairing is £45. Book tickets from here.
