There are lots of Edinburgh food news titbits to report.

First up, the Assembly Edinburgh Food Festival is now underway on George Square. We blogged about it here so we will content ourselves with pointing you towards the menu for the Section 33 pop-up which takes place on Saturday.

Actually, that’s not all we will mention. Street food lovers should make a beeline for the numerous food stalls which are dotted in and around the George Square gardens.

On a sunny day, or warm night, the gardens are always an atmospheric place to have a couple of drinks before or after a show. This year, the food offer is more appealing than ever and the idea of an afternoon spent grazing from stall to stall seems pretty attractive.

Veeno pops its cork

In terms of new places, Veeno is set to launch on Rose Street on Saturday 6th August. You can put your name down on the guest list here.

It is a wine bar which serves wines from the family vineyard in Sicily. Spuntini snacks will be on sale to accompany the vino. Apparently, all the cold meat cuts, breads and cheeses featured in their sharing platters are sourced from Italy.

Veeno will also offer informal wine tasting experiences at £19.90 for the Classic wine selection and £26.90 for the Selezione range of premium wines.

With branches already established in seven English cities, this Edinburgh branch is the first in Scotland.

The Edinburgh Grand

Looking further into the future, the former RBS headquarters on St Andrew Square are to be redeveloped into The Edinburgh Grand.

As well as serviced accommodation, the neo-classical building will house a coffee house; a 200 cover restaurant bar and an evening venue operated by Bon Vivant, the independent bar and restaurant company which runs El Cartel and the Bon Vivant on Thistle Street.

The Edinburgh Grand is pencilled in to open next summer.
