Doce: bringing a sweet taste of Napoli to Glasgow.
Doce: bringing a sweet taste of Napoli to Glasgow.

Italian restaurants thrive all over the UK but Glasgow in particular seems to have a huge appetite for pasta, pizza and a nice plate of prosciutto. Perhaps accompanied a cheeky glass or two of Prosecco.

As you might imagine, Glasgow’s rep for loving all things Italian has not gone unnoticed, especially in Italy.

First in UK

Which is why Ddoce café is launching its first UK outlet in Glasgow. In the St. Enoch Centre, to be precise.

Apparently, the new café was created by a group of Neapolitans who wanted to demonstrate that Italy’s patisserie was just as worthy of attention as its savoury culinary traditions. Ddoce is the Neapolitan word for sweet.

The new café offers sfogliatella, caprese cake and pasticciotto, all of which have a potted history here.

Not that savoury items have been ignored at Ddoce. The menu also features small dishes such as mozzarella croquettes and a type of arancini (risotto balls) plus larger dishes including a selection of cannelloni, quiches and pies.

With the exception of the milk used, all ingredients are sourced and produced from the Napoli region.

Authentic Italian

Café manager, Saverio Denitto, moved to Scotland seven months ago.

He said: ‘Our country is known for pizza and pasta but it offers much, much more with beautiful patisseries and of course, coffee. This is what we want to showcase in addition to some authentic Italian dishes which will be perfect for hungry shoppers at lunch.’

Of course, there is a huge choice of Italian restaurants on 5pm. You can browse the Italian restaurants in Glasgow here.
