The top entries and award winners from the 2017 Good Food Guide are revealed today and Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles is the top rated Scottish restaurant.

One of five Scottish restaurants in the GFG’s Top 50, Chef Fairlie’s restaurant was in ninth position overall.

New Scottish entries include Edinburgh’s Aizle and Inver at Strachur. Aizle was praised for sustainability and its use of seasonal and local ingredients while Inver was singled out for its use of heritage ingredients and its reliance on local resources in a remote area.

Glasgow doubles up

Other new Scottish entries include Birlinn on Isle of Skye; North Port in Perth and Eusebi Deli, The Gannet and 111 by Nico in Glasgow.

Glasgow has nearly doubled its number of entries, moving from seven last year to thirteen in 2017.

The new entrants mentioned above join Good Food Guide old hands such as Porter & Rye, Number 16, The Finnieston, Gamba, Cail Bruich and Brian Maule at Chardon D’Or.

Castle Terrace in Edinburgh, run by chef-patron Dominic Jack, joined the Top 50 list for the first time and debuted at number 22.

The Peat Inn in Fife (ranked 20 with a cooking score of 8), along with Tom Kitchin’s eponymous Kitchin (ranked 23) and Restaurant Martin Wishart (ranked 39), all make the coveted Top 50 list.

Best talent in UK

The Top 50 recognises the very best talent in the UK. A place on the list represents a huge achievement, with each position earned by its score in The Good Food Guide, editor appraisal, anonymous expert inspections and strength of reader feedback.

The top restaurant in the whole of the UK this year is L’Enclume in Cumbria, which scored a perfect 10 and kept the number one spot for the fourth year running.

The Good Food Guide will be available to buy at Waitrose from 5th September priced at £12.99 (rrp £17.99). The guide can also be pre-ordered now at thegoodfoodguide.co.uk
