To Contini Ristorante on Edinburgh’s George Street.

In collaboration with Menabrea beer, the Continis have installed a pop-up terrace bar on the pedestrianised part of the street.

Alongside a menu of Italian street food – think delish mortadella or mozzarella rolls, frittata and crisp antipasto salads – the pop-up is serving Menabrea’s Bionda, a 4.8% ABV pale lager, and Ambrata, a 5.0% ABV amber lager.

Italian family businesses

Andrea Pozzi, Head of Brands at C&C Group said: ‘This is an exciting partnership for the brand, and we’re thrilled to be working with one of Edinburgh’s top Italian restaurants during the busiest month of the year.  This relationship sees two authentic Italian family businesses, both of whom are committed to offering a true taste of Italy, working together to create an outstanding food and drink offering for tourists and

resident Scots alike.’

Carina Contini said: ‘At Contini, we’re all about family and have been offering our customers a fantastic food and drink experience in Edinburgh for almost 100 years. We’re delighted to be working with Menabrea, another family business which shares our values, to deliver this unique pop-up attraction in the heart of the city, which will showcase the provenance of the food we serve and one of Italy’s best-loved artisan beers.’

Menabrea is one of Italy’s oldest and largest family-run breweries. Founded in Biella, Piedmont, 1846, the brewery has been run by the Menabrea family for over one hundred and fifty years.

Drink sensibly

Victor Contini has long and fond memories of Menabrea. He remembers that when he was a seven year old boy, his father took him to a bar in Milan and bought him a Menabrea.

It must have made quite an impression as Victor still recalls the event with relish some 46 years later.

Naturally times change and no-one under eighteen will be getting anywhere near a sniff of Menabrea on George Street this summer. 5pm, Menabrea and the Continis all recommend sensible, moderate drinking.
