It's stein time.
It’s stein time at WEST on the Green.

Look out your lederhosen and dust off your dirndl.

WEST on the Green, the independent German brewery in Glasgow’s East End, is hosting a series of Oktoberfest party nights every Friday this month.

Starting from tonight, revellers can look forward to authentic German beer, hearty Bavarian nosh and plenty of shlager, AKA oompah, hits.

Tonight’s bash will be in the main beer hall while those taking place on Friday 14th, 21st and 28th will be in the new enclosed Courtyard space.

Copper coloured lager

Celebrations will centre around the introduction of the seasonal Oktoberfest beer.

WEST’s 2016 Oktoberfest beer is a traditional Märzen style beer (5.3% ABV). A rich copper coloured lager, it is brewed with Tettnang and Tradition hops.

Hints of biscuit and toast flavours and an initial malty sweetness are balanced by a moderate hop bitterness. We are told.

WEST owner Petra Wetzel said: ‘Traditionally, Oktoberfest beers are always a Märzen style beer. März means March in German. This is because these beers were brewed in the spring months and stored in cool cellars over summer when it was too warm for beer to be brewed.

‘The remaining beer was then consumed during the October festivities in order to clear out the season’s beer before brewing resumed again.’

The Oktoberfest beer will be available at the two WEST venues, WEST on the Green and WEST on the Corner, as well as a number of other pubs across Scotland.

Tickets for the party nights are £25 per person and include a German meal and live music from oompah bands.

Big Deal on Oktoberfest platter

Tickets for the party nights must be purchased in advance. The bar and restaurant will be open as normal.

If a party night doesn’t float your boat, then check our Big Deal with WEST on the Corner:

Diners can choose between the fish platter, veggie platter, cold meat platter, German platter (cheese and charcuterie) or the mighty hot meat platter: smoked pork belly, Bratwurst sausage, Bockwurst sausage, Bavarian smokie sausage, all served with St. Mungo braised cabbage and a selection of mustards and pickles.
