Salt and Vinegar: new Glasgow restaurants and bars
Salt and Vinegar: new school fish and chips in Shawlands.

_New Glasgow bars and restaurants? We got ’em. _In fact, we have so many new bars and restaurants in Glasgow that we are going to split them into two lots. Today, we’re going spill the beans on The Mallard and Salt ‘n’ Vinegar, both of which open today plus Mamafubu which is expected to open shortly.

Closely connected to The Drake on Lynedoch Street, The Mallard is a new bar which has taken shape in the old Gambrino premises on Great Western Road.

Open from 4pm today, The Mallard bills (!) itself as a neighbourhood eatery and promises wines, beers, cocktails and pizza.

Duck!

Naturally, you would be quackers not to give it a spin.

We wish the team every success.

Not least because we want to know what their next potential duck-themed venture might be called: The Muscovy? The Bufflehead?

Or perhaps the German Pekin? Our favourite on account of the fact that it sounds like a dish one might find in a Chinese restaurant in Bavaria.

Seafood in Shawlands

Anyway, we digress.

Back to the subject of new bars and restaurants in Glasgow.

Way back in April last year, we rattled on about the news that Salt ‘n’ Vinegar was due to open on Pollokshaws Road as a chippie takeaway and restaurant.

Fast forward to the present and the new Shawlands venture is said to be launching today.

The walls of Salt ‘n’ Vinegar are painted with the names of assorted fish, many of which are on the menu.

Ranging from lobster ravioli and bread-crumbed scallops to cod in batter, it is a long way from your run of the mill chip shop menu.

Running a seafood dining room alongside a chippie is not new. In fact, it has been the basis of many an old school caff for decades.

Salt ‘n’ Vinegar brings a dash of contemporary style to the idea.

It’s a concept which seems to have worked well for Catch, a couple of miles further down the A77 in Giffnock.

New pan-Asian restaurant in Glasgow – Mamafubu

Looking further into the future, Mamafubu is coming together on the Glassford Street site formerly occupied by Warehouse.

We can all look forward to a new pan-Asian bistro.

More info as we get it.

Back tomorrow with more new Glasgow restaurants and bars.
