MacSorley’s Music Bar re-opens tonight after a swish refurbishment.

The Jamaica Street bar has been taking care of Glasgow’s thirsty since 1899 but, by the beginning of 2017, the venerable boozer was looking a bit frayed around the edges.

Punch Taverns closed MacSorley’s Music Bar in January and spent a cool £250k giving the place a top to toe makeover.

Live music

Regular live music will continue to be one of the major attractions.

Wire and Wool take the stage tonight. Over the next few weeks, visitors can look forward to having their ears boxed/soothed by bands such as The Bar Dogs and Have Mercy Las Vegas.

Of course, the occasional tipple can help in the appreciation of music and MacSorley’s Music Bar has plenty of options for the drouthy.

Alongside 60 malt whiskies, there are 40 gins. Scotland’s gin brands have a strong presence with appearances from Daffys and Rock Rose among many others.

There are also dozens of rums on the gantry.

Global beer selection

Bottled beers range from Chicago’s Goose Island via Belgium’s Leffe Blonde and home-grown talent from brewers like Innis & Gunn.

The kitchen delivers a Top of the Pops menu of pub grub classics.

There are several burgers on offer including one called The Beast.

We could list all the ingredients but it’s maybe best if we just leave it your imagination.

Of course, there is mac ‘n’ cheese, steak pie and beer-battered haddock.

MacNachos at MacSorley’s Music Bar

The MacNachos are made in-house and are billed as the largest in Glasgow.

We like the sound of the Dirty Fries. A mound of Glasgow salad crowned with toppings such as cheese ‘n’ bacon, chip shop curry sauce and beef chilli.

The 5pm Dining blog wishes MacSorley’s Music Bar a long and melodic future.

Although, to be honest, they had our vote as soon as we saw that gravy was available as a side dish.
