Glasgow’s new Mezze restaurant does what it says on the tin.

From Bulgaria to Lebanon via Greece and Turkey, mezze or small plates of food have long been popular.

It is a companionable way to eat and the explosion of mezze or tapas-style restaurants in the UK over the last couple of decades underlines how readily we have all taken to this way of eating with friends.

Mediterranean mezze

The latest Glasgow venture  to specialise in this style of food is Mezze, a Mediterranean-style rooftop restaurant on the top floor of the iconic Rotunda complex.

Enjoying spectacular views of the River Clyde and Glasgow, the split level venue has an intimate dining area with luxurious booths and rustic tables.

There is a laidback bar area under the Rotunda rooftop where olive trees provide a dreamy oasis for cocktails or a quiet glass of wine.

As the name indicates, small plates of food designed for sharing are a key feature of Mezze.

As well as a section of sides and salads, the menu is divided into dishes from the land and dishes from the sea.

Options from the land include lamb meatballs, chicken souvlaki, slow cooked lamb shanks and fritters made with courgettes and feta.

Seafood choices range from the whole, char grilled sea bream to grilled octopus and sardines, fresh mussels in a white wine and garlic sauce plus a seafood stew.

If the myriad choices all become a bit bemusing, there is also the option to order up the chef’s selection of mixed or seafood dishes.

Handy for The Hydro

Handily for anyone going to a show, Mezze is about a two minute walk from the SEC and SEE Hydro.

Several nearby bus stops run services to and from the city centre and the Exhibition Centre train station is a brisk five minute walk. There is free on-site parking for customers at the Rotunda.
