Blog readers with long memories may remember that we blogged about the relaunch of Hilton Edinburgh Carlton Hotel towards the end of last year.

As part of the multi-million pound refurbishment, a Marco Pierre White Steakhouse opened on the first floor of the hotel.

It is a semi-private space which is separated from the hotel’s Nineteen Hundred Bar and Lounge by a screen.

As well as Edinburgh landscapes and Marco caricatures, the space is decorated with a moody black and white portrait of The Guv’nor beside his trademark black and white throne.

Marco Pierre White Steakhouse signature dishes

The Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill offers gourmet British cuisine inspired by the world- famous chef.

Signature dishes such as his beetroot and goat cheese salad and fried haddock served with triple-cooked chips sit beside his take on the Great American Cheese Burger and a fish curry from his Wheeler’s restaurants.

Of course, pride of place goes to the grill section. Rib-eyes, sirloins, fillets and T-bones from Scotch cattle are aged for up to 28 days and served with traditional garnishes and an appealing selection of sauces.

Steak sharing cuts

If you really want to go wild, order one of the sharing cuts. The menu has a 16oz Chateaubriand and a 24oz Cote du Boeuf for two diners.

The latter is probably the sort of dish best attempted after dodging starters.

However, if you think you have capacity, popular starters on the menu include the devilled whitebait, duck rillettes and a warmed Camembert which is served with toasted sourdough bread.

The desserts are a mix of traditional British and American classics. Think along the lines of rice pudding, Chicago chocolate brownies and New York baked cheesecake.

A la carte and pre-theatre

Three courses from the a la carte menu will come in at around £30 a head plus drinks. More if you tuck into the steak section, obviously.

The pre-theatre, including a glass of Prosecco on arrival and after dinner coffee/tea, is £16.95 for two courses or £19.95 for three.

You can book in via 5pm Dining.
