Whiski Rooms are new to 5pm Dining in Edinburgh.
Whiski Rooms are new to 5pm Dining in Edinburgh.

There are always new restaurants being added to 5pm Dining in Edinburgh.

As the owners of Herpes Pizza or The Golden Shower Restaurant (plenty more here) will tell you, choosing the right, or wrong, name can have a big impact on your restaurant.

If you are not a well known chef with a name that puts bums on seats, there isn’t much point in putting your name above the door.

Instead, it may be better to choose a name which suggests the main selling point of your restaurant.

New to 5pm Dining in Edinburgh: Whiski Rooms

Step forward, Whiski Rooms, the latest addition to 5pm Dining in Edinburgh.

With views overlooking The Mound and central Edinburgh, Whiski Rooms is an award-winning whisky bar, restaurant and shop on North Bank Street.

Stripped stone walls and whisky-themed pictures add to the ambience, as do the daily whisky tastings.

Many of the dishes can be paired with a recommended whisky. If you like what you try, the Whiski Rooms’ shop means you can buy a bottle to take home. Cocktails, craft beers and live music in the evenings add to Whiski Rooms’ appeal.

The kitchen at Whiski Rooms happily flies the flag for Scotland’s natural larder. From Perthshire lamb to Cullen skink and Loch Duart salmon, Scottish produce is to the fore. The same could be said of the Scotch whisky which is used to cure salmon and flavour dishes like the haggis at the Whiski Rooms.

New to 5pm Dining in Edinburgh: Charwood

Using a slightly more mysterious name – but still hinting at the kitchen’s methods – Charwood is a neighbourhood restaurant, grill and bar.

Based on Buckstone Terrace in Edinburgh’s Fairmilehead, the venue acts as a community hub and events space for the local area.

An award-winning, family-friendly venue, it has a weekly pub quiz, kids’ club and also shows sports in the lounge bar.

From eggs Benedict at breakfast to steak dinners cooked in the Josper grill, Charwood believes in serving good, simple, locally sourced food.

As well as the 35-day, dry aged steaks, they offer a range of burgers and classic main courses such as the steak and ale pie, battered East Coast haddock and macaroni cheese.

For something a little more exotic, you might want to try the Thai green curry or the butternut squash, pear and gorgonzola tart.

Cooked in a wood-burning pizza oven, the pizza are freshly made, hand-stretched and cooked to order.

Finish off with a dessert like the sticky toffee pudding or one of the house sundaes made with Di Rollo of Musselburgh ice cream.

We like the look of the Highland Fling – Scottish tablet ice cream, vanilla ice cream, fudge pieces, honey sauce and fresh whipped cream.
