Shilling Brewing Company: beer, pizza, good times. Pic: [Facebook][1].

New Glasgow restaurants? You’ve come to the right place. 5pm Dining is always adding new restaurants. Here are three Glasgow restaurants who have just joined 5pm: Shilling Brewing Company, Pizza Punks and Waterfront Restaurant.

Shilling Brewing Company

Shilling Brewing Co. is a brewpub on West George Street. Once a bank, the bar sits in an imposing and airy space with high ceilings, massive windows, a marble bar and a striking mural of a unicorn rampant dominating one wall.

You may have already guessed from the name but Shilling Brewing Co. is all about the beer. As well as an ever changing selection of guest beers – there are 27 draft taps – Shilling Brewing Co. also makes its own core range of beers on the premises. Weekly brewery tours, tap takeovers and tasting flights of beer make this place a beer-lover’s paradise.

Along with starter and grazing options such as nachos, fried pickles and wings, Shilling Brewing Co. serves around a dozen pizza. They are all made in house from dough which uses a blend of baker’s and brewer’s yeast from the on-site brewery. This is proved for 48 hours and then cooked quickly in the bar’s cupola oven. The result is authentic thin-crust pizza.

The varieties on offer range from a classic Margherita to pizza with Moroccan, Greek and Spanish toppings. There is even a Scottish pizza crowned with spiced haggis and IRN Bru chilli jam.

Shilling Brewing Co. runs regular offers with 5pm Dining. For example, you can book in for tomorrow via 5pm Dining and receive a 30% discount when dining on the midweek menu.

Pizza Punks

Pizza Punks: taking the DIY ethos to pizza.

With its exposed brick, neon signs and metal work, Pizza Punks on St Vincent Street looks as edgy and urban as the name suggests.

While the decor is all about the rebel yell, the welcome is warm, informal and attentive. Creative cocktails, craft beers, wine and frizzante on tap, milkshakes and a wide variety of soft drinks mean that customers will never go thirsty.

Punk was all about doing it yourself. Pizza Punks is similar in that it encourages customers to design their own pizza before it is cooked in the monster wood-fired oven.

Diners can punk up their sourdough base with unlimited artisan toppings – all for one price – or choose from a list of combinations such as chipotle and chocolate pulled pork, jalapeños and roast corn salsa.

You can book a table at Pizza Punks via 5pm Dining.

Waterfront Restaurant

New Glasgow restaurants: Waterfront Restaurant at Alea on Springfield Quay.

Tasty by Tony Singh has departed Alea Casino on Springfield Quay. In its place is Waterfront Restaurant which opened earlier this year.

The dining room has breathtaking and unrivalled city views over the River Clyde, hence the name.

The emphasis here is on having a good time, whether in the vibrant, colourful restaurant or in the wider casino complex where a packed entertainment schedule of tribute bands and sporting fixtures keep things lively.

You can bag a Big Deal for a Vegas Dinner Dance on Saturday 17th June here.

The kitchen at Waterfront Restaurant makes best use of the finest Scottish products like Loch Etive salmon, Ayrshire black pudding and Scotch beef. Dishes like the smooth chicken liver pâté on toasted brioche or the poached sole fillet are very classical.

Other options, such as the tempura king prawn or duck breast with stir-fried greens, are more contemporary. Many of the dishes take inspiration from the Mediterranean. The cod fillet with a chickpea and chorizo stew falls into this category as does the sun-blushed tomato risotto.

Dessert might be Eton mess, made with Perthshire soft fruit; a mango and passion fruit parfait with honeycomb or the selection of Scottish cheese with Arran oatcakes.

You can book in via 5pm Dining. £14.95 per person for two courses on the main menu. £19.95 for three.

New Glasgow restaurants are added to the site all the time. Keep checking back on the 5pm Dining blog for all the food front news.
