Price of a pint
The price of a pint varies hugely around the globe. However, a beer and a bite to eat need not break the bank. The Drake is offering two main courses and a glass of wine for two at £16.

As we all know, the price of a pint can leap up and down from one part of town to another. While you might just get away with paying about £3 in your neighbourhood local, it’s perfectly possible to pay a fiver or more for the same beer in a city centre hot spot.

Happily, we still have some way to go before paying just under £9 for a beer.

According to research by ethical coffee and coffee  machine supplier Honest Coffees, that’s the going rate for a beer in Dubai.

The study looked into how much drinks cost around the world and found the price of a pint was nearly £9 in Dubai but less than £2 in Cairo or Cape Town.

Glasgow or Edinburgh wasn’t included in the list of 30 cities covered by the survey. London was. Not surprisingly, it came in as the eleventh most expensive city in which to buy a round of drinks.

The survey was based on the cost of ordering a beer, a coffee, a coke and a bottle of water.

Price of a pint in Paris

Paris is the world’s most expensive city for a round of drinks. At 40% more expensive than London, your round would set you back £13.68. The beer alone would cost £6.14.

Still feeling thirsty?

Better value can be had in Africa. Cape Town comes in at less than a fiver for all four drinks and Cairo is the best value of all at a measly £3.92.

Your rapidly plunging holiday pounds will also go further in South and Central America. Prices in Rio de Janeiro, Lima and Mexico City are all dwarfed by those in London.

Somewhat surprisingly though, at £3.28 a cup of coffee typically sets you back more in the Mexican capital than the £2.78 it would cost in London.

Of course, that £1.96 beer in Cape Town is less of a bargain by the time you factor in a few hundred quid for your airfare.
