The Plumpy Duck is the new restaurant at The Bowfield Hotel & Country Club in Howwood.

Part of the Manorview Group, the Renfrewshire hotel is in the middle of rolling £1.5 million refurbishment.

The Plumpy Duck is a major part of the refurb.

We’re sure the new spa will be fab but, at least as far as the 5pm Dining blog goes, we’re all about the restaurant.

The interior has been redesigned to give what the owners call a ‘charming countryside restaurant’ feel.

With richly upholstered chairs, wooden beams and cosy booths, it certainly has a comfortably rustic ambiance.

Open seven days a week, it serves every meal from breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea to evening meals.

Plumpy duck: Scottish produce

They have a good looking menu with a wide appeal.

Dry-aged Scottish beef, seafood from Loch Fyne Fisheries and game sourced from Highland estates all appear prominently.

The grill section takes pride of place with rib-eye and flat iron beef steaks lining up against veal T-bones, a butterflied chicken breast and a couple of burgers.

Among the main courses, there are plenty of old fave, trad options such as the steak and ale pie; the beer batter haddock and the three cheese macaroni.

Alternate choices, like the chilli lime beef fillet salad; the panko crab cakes and the garlic buttered langoustines with rocket, baby gem and pomegranate salad, demonstrate the kitchen’s more exotic flair.

Dessert might be the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch and vanilla ice cream or the peanut butter mousse with a honeyed oat crumble.
